What does "Voluntary Aided" mean ?

Front of School

Essentially, Voluntary Aided, means that responsibility for the running of the school is shared between the trustees i.e. The Archdiocese of Westminster, and the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The Board of Governors is responsible for the curriculum and for maintaining the school's catholic identity. The Board of Governors is also responsible for the major elements of the school's budget, i.e. those relating to staffing, salaries, educational supplies, repairs and maintenance.

The responsibility for the day to day running of the school is entrusted to the Headteacher by the Board of Governors.

The school's budget is delegated through the Local Education Authority, which is also responsible for monitoring aspects of the curriculum. Certain elements of the school's budget are controlled by the Local Education Authority through a formula agreed with the Department for Education and Skills.

The school is also helped and advised by the Westminster Diocesan Education Service (WDES) particularly with regard to Religious Education and financing of building and maintenance work.

Is it linked to a Parish ?

Yes. The school is situated in the parish of St Gregory the Great (South Ruislip) with which there are very close links. Many of our pupils come from the neighbouring parishes of St Thomas More (Eastcote), St Bernard's (Northolt), and St Gabriel's (South Harrow) where there are no Catholic Primary Schools. The Parish Priest of St Gregory the Great is a regular and welcome visitor to our school.

How is the school organised ?

The school (including the nursery), caters for children between the ages of 3 and 11. Children join the school in the academic year during which they celebrate their fifth birthday. Therefore we have school intakes in September and January. Each class contains children of differing abilities belonging to the same age group.
