PE Curriculum Intent Statement

The aim of our PE curriculum at St Swithun Wells is to be a fully inclusive subject where all pupils are encouraged, challenged and inspired to succeed and excel within their individual ability.

PE Curriculum Implementation Statement

At St Swithun Wells, we value the importance of this subject and how it positively impacts on pupils’ physical, emotional, and social well-being. We work closely with a PE coaching company who provide outstanding physical education which also supports the subject knowledge and delivery from all teachers across the school. PE allocation is a minimum of 2 hours per week with pupils given other opportunities in preparation for sporting competitions. A wide range of sports is taught across the school (Nursery to Year 6) so that all pupils develop a collection of skills. Additional support is in place where this is needed and pupils with advanced sporting ability are challenged further. Pupils across Key Stage Two are given weekly opportunities to participate in a variety of local and national competitions which also enables character building, working together as a team and embedding the value of fairness and respect. We are passionate about the need to teach pupils how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equality of play to embed life-long values. PE at St Swithun Wells is an imperative element of the curriculum, which develops a need for healthy lifestyles, a balanced diet, a positive growth mind-set and the resilience to persevere.
