Big Lent Walk for CAFOD

Our whole school community came together in a wonderful show of solidarity and compassion to take part in the Big Lent Walk, raising funds for CAFOD and their vital work supporting communities around the world.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for the walk. Your support helped make the event even more special and meaningful. Together, we’ve contributed to important projects that bring hope and change to those who need it most.

Well done to everyone who took part – a true example of walking with purpose this Lent and during our Jubilee year.

Year 3 Celebrate St Patrick’s Day with Colour and Kindness

Year 3 marked St Patrick’s Day in style by dressing in the vibrant colours of the Irish flag – green, white, and orange. The classroom was full of festive spirit as the children learned about the life of St Patrick and the significance of the day.

As part of their celebration, the children also brought in donations for the foodbank at St Gregory’s, supporting a much-needed resource within the local community. Their generosity was a wonderful reminder of the true spirit of the day – compassion, community, and care for others.

Well done, Year 3, for celebrating with both joy and heart! 🍀

Year 5’s Silly Hair and Silly Sock Day – Celebrating St John Bosco

Year 5 brought colour, creativity, and lots of laughter to school with a Silly Hair and Silly Sock Day to celebrate the feast day of St John Bosco – a saint known for his dedication to young people and education.

The day wasn’t just about fun, though! The children also raised money for Save the Children, linking their fundraising efforts to their History topic on the Victorians and learning about the lives of less fortunate children during that era.

It was a fantastic way to combine celebration, learning, and compassion. Well done, Year 5, for making a difference in such a fun and meaningful way!

RSPCA

Reception dressed up as animals to celebrate the feast day of their class saint St Francis of Assisi.  We had a great selection of both wild and domestic animals. Well done to Reception who confidently got up in assembly and spoke about their animal. Thank you for all the donations.

Orchyd

Year 1 celebrated the feast day of Saint John Paul and raised money for Orchyd, a local charity who provide providing day trips and residential holidays for children with disabilities. They all dressed up in blue for Mary, because Saint John Paul when he was a pope, introduced The Luminous Mysteries to be part of the Rosary.  The Rosary which is dedicated to Mary was Saint John Paul's favourite prayer.

Christmas Jumper Day

The whole school supported the Catholic Children's society by wearing their Christmas jumpers to school.  We chose to wear them on the day of our Christmas dinner.  Thank you to everyone who supported the charity.

TUB2PUB Appeal

Our Eco Warriors, Luke, Ethan and Joseph asked parents and the parishoners of St Gregory's to save their plastic tubs and bring them into school or the parish during the first week of the new term. The tubs were delivered to the Ascott Pub in Eastcote where they will be taken to a plastic reprocessing center.  Once there, they will be shredded, before being sold on to plastic manufacturers to use in place of new plastic.

All money raised will go directly to MacMillan Cancer Support.

Save the Children

The children of Year 5 had a silly sock and silly hairstyle day to celebrate their class saint of St John Bosco.  The children chose the charity Save the Children, because St. John Bosco didn't just talk about educating the young—he lived it. He worked tirelessly to guide, teach, and love the most vulnerable piople of our society.

The South Ruislip Food Bank

The Mini Vinnies asked all the children to bring in a non perishable items for the food bank.  This is a vital hub for the community and supports people who are struggling to afford to buy food to eat.  It's not just food but essential items such as loo roll and nappies. Thank you to everyone for their donations and to Mrs Conway who delivered them to the food bank at our parish church of St Gregory's.

The Passage

We welcomed Max from The Passage to speak with the children about what they do to help homeless people across London. Their mission is to prevent and end homelessness, acting with compassion and urgency. They provide wrap around support and a platform for people to share their lived experiences. Together, they hope to inspire change! Last year they supported 2,300 people who were experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The pupils donated items needed to support homeless people such as toiletries and essential clothing. The Mini Vinnies chose this local charity linked to our Catholic Social Teaching topic of Community and Participation. Thank you to everyone for all the donations and to Mrs Doyle who drove up to The Passage in Victoria and hand delivered the donation.
