MfL Curriculum Intent Statement
To develop the teaching and learning of Spanish across the school, preparing pupils for future opportunities in Spanish speaking countries.
MfL Curriculum Implementation Statement
St Swithun Wells’ Catholic Primary School believes in a communicative approach in which all pupils can actively engage in meaningful tasks. Spanish will be taught to all Key Stage 2 pupils for half an hour weekly. Greatest emphasis will be given to speaking and listening, with some reading and writing where relevant. We follow the LCP Primary Spanish scheme of work, where objectives are in line with the National Curriculum. KS2 teachers will be provided with a planning folder, in which learning objectives and planning activities are available.
The basis for the Spanish curriculum is focused on practical communication. It takes into account available resources, and topics that are considered relevant to scaffold future language learning at KS3. Progression of skills learning ensures that the basics of the Spanish language is embedded across KS2
